Week 20…Love from Michigan

When we got to our Gleneden Beach rental house and saw that the driveway would not accommodate our rig, we ended up at Coyote Rock Marina and RV Resort just down the road. We were happy to camp out in their overflow parking, although no one told us it was the overflow boat trailer parking.

Sunday morning we woke up at 6 am to trucks parking their boat trailers. By the time we got out of the camper, we were surrounded by so many trailers and even had a few frustrated looks since we were blocking an area for more parking. We took our time though and enjoyed our hot showers and a nice breakfast just in time for the rain to come. We packed what we needed from the trailer into the camper and Jeep hoping not to forget anything. We dropped the trailer at a marina just up the road that had more land and then headed into Lincoln City.

We met Mom and Dad Vug at McMenamins Lighthouse Brewpub. It was so great to see their faces! After lots of hugs, we settled in for some lunch although the waitress had to come back multiple times because we were chattering too much to look at the menu.

We were finally able to check into our rental house and were happy to see that it would work out nicely for us for the week. It’s small but comfortable and has some character. Because Vug boys need information, we know it’s 792 square feet, it was built in 1928, and it last sold in 2007.

We had some cocktails, enjoyed a nice fire, and continued to get caught up on things going on back home. The first couple days were overcast and rainy so we hung out watching movies, did a grocery run and stopped in at the outlet mall.

Gus had no problem settling in

Thankfully the weather cleared up the rest of the week and we were able to get out and see a lot of the Oregon coast. Our house is just a few blocks from the beach, so we enjoyed searching for rocks and figuring out the tides. Gus enjoys his morning walks around the neighborhood as well.

Thursday was Mom and Dad Vug’s 51st Anniversary! So thankful for them and their example to us. We had a great day celebrating. It was a sunny, clear day as we headed up to Pacific City. We drove on the beach and took some pictures. We continued up the coast taking any road that would lead us closer to the beach. We drove through a small neighborhood and ended up at an awesome lookout in Oceanside. It was a great spot for some fun pictures.

Awesome lookout we found in Ocean City

We continued to Cape Meares Lighthouse. The scenery is just breathtaking. I don’t think I would ever get sick of it. We came across some ORV sand dunes in the area. We had heard there were some in southern Oregon, but to find them this far north was a surprise. If we had a flag I think Dad Vug would’ve gone in. In our effort to see the sunset, we drove around looking for the perfect spot. We finally found a beautiful place and got some awesome pictures.

Waiting for the sunset was worth it!

We ended the day at The Schooner restaurant and enjoyed rockfish and really tasty wood fired pizza. It was a perfect day of gorgeous sights, food, cocktails and lots of laughs and love. We are so happy that Mom and Dad Vug made the trek out here to celebrate with us. It’s nice to have a little bit of home for a week.

Cheers to 51 years!!

We continued to drive around the area exploring the coast and inland forests the last couple days. There is so much beautiful countryside and it was neat to see the coast as well as mossy covered trees.

Craig collecting rocks – Lost Creek State Recreation Area

Today we are sticking around our rental house. We took a nice walk on the beach in Depoe Bay this morning. We collected rocks and shells, and enjoyed the beautiful, clear morning. We are now relaxing while Craig makes us breakfast. He has made breakfast for us all pretty much all week and they have been excellent.

We are taking advantage of the washer & dryer and getting everything washed, vacuuming the Jeep, truck, and camper and will be ready to head out in the morning. We plan on having one last breakfast together in Depoe Bay before we part ways.

Goodbyes are always hard, but we made great memories and appreciated the company, a house to relax in, family meals, and having our own clubhouse afternoons. Clubhouse at home happens on Saturday afternoons and we always enjoy a few beers and hearing about everyone’s week.

We’ll head south to California next week. We found a Four Wheel Camper Rally next weekend that is in Ocotillo Wells, CA. We’ll take the week making our way there. Mom and Dad Vug will meander their way home. Safe travels Mom & Dad, we love you!

Off to California…
